Autism Information

Information is power. You have come to the right place to get autism information. As the parent of a child who is on the autism spectrum, I have walked this road. We have come so very far. I know first hand how powerful information can be. I want to share with you what I have learned.

For symptoms of autism just click here. I have a whole page of information just on the different symptoms and different autism types. Each child has their own set of characteristics for autism.

If you see signs of autism that your child is somewhere on the autism spectrum, then seek help. The internet is sometimes more helpful than local doctors. Go to a Defeat Autism Now conference. Get into see one of these DAN doctors. These doctors will be the ones to run blood tests and urine test. These doctors will help you to see scientifically what vitamins and minerals are lacking in your child. These doctors will tell you if your child need detoxing from heavy metals.

Parents Need A Break

One of the most important pieces of information that I can share with you is something that I didn't find when I started this journey 10 years ago. That is to tell you to take care of yourself. Funny how nobody ever told me that! I drowned my days and nights in research. Late at night I was surfing the internet. I read book after book. I was searching for all of the autism information that I could get my hands on. I was the parent who was holding our child during horrific meltdowns. I was kicked, bruised, bit, pinched and more.

It is hard to take care of yourself when you are in a panic and your trying to put out this fire called autism. But it has to be done. You are no good to your child if you break. Your child, your family needs you to be strong now, more than ever. Most mothers who have children who are on the autism spectrum are on anti-depressants. Most parents have to be on medicine to help them sleep, cope or get through their day. I am not. And I assure you that if the Lord was not my source, I would be on a cabnet full of pills to help me cope!

I take care of myself and I chose to keep a balance in my life. Sunday afternoons are my time alone. My time to get perspective. Not to say that I have always been balanced! Trust me, this diagnosis of autism has thrown my life for a loop. But I take time to pray. God is my source. God is my strength. God is in control. I keep that perspective and I do well. I want to help more parents do well. Please read my book, Finding God In Autism to help keep you spiritually balanced.

Gaither up your autism information and make a list. A list that will propel you to move forward. Put yourself on that list. Nobody wants you to fail. Everyone wants you to help your child overcome. And if you search the internet you will see that children are most definately overcoming!

How Do You Recharge Your Batteries?!

What do you do to recharge your batteries? How do you get rest so that your can keep helping your child? Share it! Parents need ideas so that they don't get burned out with the load that they carry.

We all have our ways of coping and we need to share with each other what is working to keep from burning out. Pay it forward and share with others how you take care of yourself. Share with us what you have learned!

I have a friend who runs a site called, The Special Needs Child. This site has great information, tips and techniques for raising, loving and parenting a child with special needs. Special families need to share stories, resources, and information to inspire and motivate each other on this long journey full of ups and downs and raising a child with special needs.
