Grandparents Parenting

Grandparents parenting is not that uncommon these days. They play a very important role in helping their children and their grandchildren. And I hear a lot of grandparents are raising grandchildren in today's times. If you have a child who has a son or daughter who has autism (or any kind of special needs) then you need to add your support to the mix. Your child is now facing the role of a lifetime raising your grandchild. I have been blessed to have parents that support me and I know first hand the importance of them in our lives.

Many grandparents have read my book, Finding God In Autism. My book was written to the parents but it is easy for you to glean much from the book. You can pray for your family. God has given you wisdom in your years. You can read books and when the time is right, give the important information to your son or your daughter. We (parents) find it very hard to find time to read and it is hard to learn when we are exhausted and sleep deprived.

You can learn about the gfcf diet that is important for your grandchild to be on. You can support your child with the food choices that they must make to make your grandchild healthy. There are many ways for you to help out. You can bring the family a meal, do laundry for them or take your grandchild overnight.

My parents take our children overnight one night a month. They get a hotel room for me and my husband. We meet my parents at a hotel and have dinner with them and the kids. Then, my parents take our kids home overnight and my husband and I pick the kids up no later than noon the next day. It is a huge respite for me and my husband. Something we look forward to every time!

But more than that...honestly...it is the prayers of grandma and grandpa that mean the most to me. They pray for me and my family. They pray for us daily and they interceed with prayer to our almighty God. I encourage you to pray for your children and grandchildren. Pray for direction, strength and wisdom.

My book, Finding God In Autism teaches parents about going to God for forty consecutive days. You as a grandparent can do this study and interceed for your child and your grandchild for forty consecutive days. God will move mountains when generations are involved. I believe that with all of my heart. I would love to hear the testimonies from those of you who are interceding in prayer for your grandchildren. You can get my book and then pass it onto your child to read when you are done.

A special needs child affects the entire family. Every grandparent wants their grandchildren healed. You may be one of the grandparents parenting your grandchild because your child cannot raise their own child. Know that God will help you and bless you for going the extra mile. For those grandparents parenting grandchildren...autism or not...God is using you to be a blessing.
