Autism-Church-Ministry
Many churches are now helping families that have children with autism. If you have an Autism-Church-Ministry, the book Finding God In Autism will help you. This is a great book to give to your families that have a child who is on the autism spectrum. You may teach Sunday School lessons using this book or bring the families together to have discussions about it. This book will encourage your families, reminding them that God is in control. You may easily replace the word 'autism' with the name of another special need (such as down syndrome, epilepsy etc...) and help the parents of these special children. This book is being used to spark discussions in Sunday School classes for the parents of special needs children and for Bible Studies.
I pray God is calling your church to have a Sunday School class for children with special needs. Parents of these children need a break and they need to be fed and lifted up by the promises of God. These parents need love, understanding and support. More and more churches are seeing this need. This book can be used to support those parents.
If you are a church and you are looking for a way to train your staff to work with these children I recommend Joni And Friends organization. They have a great training called, 'Through The Roof'. They also have the best family retreat for the families that have a child of special needs to attend to. You may get information for this organizations training and family camps by clicking here.
Joni And Friends has just put out a new disability awareness program called Camp Lean On The Lord. They cover needs of children who have ADHD, Asthma, Autism, Cerebral palsy, Cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, Dyslexia, Epilepsy, Hearing impairment, Learning disabilities, Multiple sclerosis, Muscular dystrophy and Spinal cord injuries. (My son is the featured child in the autism spectrum!) This is a great circulum for a church.
Parents and grandparents, if your church does not have a class that is serving your child or grandchild that has special needs, you need to ask for an autism-church-ministry to be started. Do not be discouraged if you have to ask several times. Get a program going in your church. The church is not full until everyone is invited in. Your child needs to be in church and our churches needs our children. Remember Luke 14:21-23
"The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame'. Sir, the servant said, 'what you ordered has been done, but there is still room'. The the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet."
The book, 'Finding God In Autism' is good for the parents of special needs children. Joni And Friends has a good circulum for the children. Together, there is no excuse not to have an Autism-Church-Ministry!
