Dealing With Depression In Men And Women

Dealing with depression in men and women can be tough. Some people are prone to go toward depression and others are not. My husband is one who goes toward depression when things get tough and I am not. We have been married 18 years and have a very good marriage.
Having a child diagnosed with autism (or any kind of special needs) is hard for each and everyone of us. Start doing bio-medical treatments, therapies and out of state doctors consultations and you have a receipe for financial disaster! If the family has other children, you have just added more stress to the pile. Mix in an unruly pet and someone easily loses the self control that they thought they had!
Depression in men can make it harder if they are the main bread winner. Why? Because if they lose their job, there goes the security for the wife.
My husband suffered on and off with minor bouts of depression throughout the years. A few years back we took a calculated risk and borrowed from our equity line to help pay for medical treatments for our son. We took the money and invested it in real estate. Guess what? We lost it all. This sent my husband into a severe and long period of depression. I'll never forget how horrible of a time it was.
It was so bad that he tried a number of perscription depression medications. Nothing worked. He was hospitalized. It did not help. He sought counseling and it too did not help. We talked endlessly and it only helped temporarily. Finally, we found a natural and fast way to help him overcome the depression that he was in.
I bought him the book 'Battlefield Of The Mind' by Joyce Meyer. It took him reading each chapter a couple of times and then...he got it! He was able to wrap his brain around what Joyce was saying about controlling your thoughts. Once he could control his thougths, the depression lifted. The depression is gone forever!
Joyce's book does a good job in helping to lift depression in men and women. She points out how we are under attack and the enemy is out to cause us to doubt, be afraid and confused. The war that is going on in our minds can make or break each and everyone of us. In her book, Joyce gives you tools to overcome. She gives you ways to strengthen your relationship with our Almighty God.
My husband fought back with the tools that he learned from the book, 'Battlefield Of The Mind.' I encourage you to buy the book and the devotional and give it to someone you know who is struggling with depression. No drugs, no counseling, no hospitals. God's way. The natural way. This book does an excellent job helping someone to overcome depression.
I have received many emails through this website to know that my house was not the only house dealing with depression. My husband has learned so much that I have no fear and no doubt that he will ever have even a day of depression again. Now, we can get back to dealing with helping our son to overcome autism.
