We Shall Overcome!
We shall overcome! Do I believe God can heal a child with autism or a child with special needs? Yes. That takes no faith for me. The faith for me comes in the form of believing God will heal our son in my lifetime. It is not if God can heal, it is, when is God going to heal our son? God has His timing and His reason for waiting.
On my own, I could not possibly make autism go away no matter what I chose to do for our son. It would be impossible for me. But autism going away (or other special needs) in our children is totally possible for our loving and wonderful God. The meaning of possible means it is capable of happening.
I think we can believe in Christ for our salvation in a matter of seconds and then we can spend the rest of our life believing in Him for little more. Having a child with such severe needs strips us of many layers and gets to the core of what we believe. There are times when I just want to be told the truth and nothing more. I don't want to hear about what others speculate might be the reason that my child has not hit his developmental milestones.
I had to learn to overcome fears that were building up in my mind. What matters is helping my child overcome anxiety that is he faced with during every new situation. My sons diagnosis brought on a whole new list of difficulties that needed to be overcome.
I can look at my bookshelves that are filled with books on autism. There is a wealth of information at my finger tips about the disorder. Books on those who have recovered children, books on special diets, books on supplements and books on bio medical jargon that makes my head spin. I have read them all and still wonder what I know for sure! We have a lot of information on autism today and yet so many questions still go unanswered.
My husband and I have a said to each other on several occasion, "We shall overcome!" We refuse to have our life wrecked by our sons diagnosis. Together we made the choice to choose to overcome.
The book, Finding God In Autism will give you information to help you get your mindset right. If your not to the place where you can say, "we shall overcome" then maybe you need to know more about Christianity. I recommend The Christian Religion website. It is a great site that will teach you from the beginning ministry of Jesus, to the diverse traditions and Doctrines of the three main branches of Christianity.
